Wake up, Stanford.

"Change comes slowly in the academy, but someone here said the other day that the way to herd cats is to move the cat food."
--Jennifer Summit, professor of English at Stanford

Primary claims:

Stanford is making changes in their curriculum to encourage humanities doctoral students to graduate in five years (rather than 7-9 years) by focusing classes on student interests and research, holding students accountable by evaluating their progress, and supporting and celebrating all student achievement. Is this a joke? What has Stanford been doing as an educational institution up until this point?
